Google Operating System blog reports addition of Invisible mode in Gtalk. The blogpost says ” Now you can be logged in to Gmail Chat and see if your contacts are online, but they won’t be able to see you’re online.”

However, this feature is available only with new version of Gmail and if you are simultaneously using the desktop or any other flavor of Gtalk, your status change wont happen

I really wish this feature turns up on Gtalk desktop client as well.
