After getting the wireless card (Wi-Fi) working in Xubuntu Hardy Heron on my Macbook Pro (Penryn), I went on by fixing the keyboard (special keys) and the sound.The keyboard fix is actually very simple. I haven't seen a detailed tutorial on fixing the special keys for the MBP (Penryn) anywhere, so I'm writing this as a guide to others that might also need help.
How to install Ubuntu's world clock applet in Xubuntu
One of the visual improvements in this new version of Ubuntu is on the clock that sits on the Gnome panel. It now shows much more information. Apart from time and date, it now shows the weather conditions for your current location. It was disappointing to see that Xubuntu didn’t have it by default, so I have written a very easy and small guide on how to install it in Xubuntu.
Ubuntu 8.04 released
Congratulations to the Ubuntu community on the release of Ubuntu 8.04! I am currently downloading a copy of Kubuntu 8.04 KDE4 Remix and preparing to make a jump from KDE3 to 4, which should give a modern looking computing experience anyway. I've been playing with the beta version of the Remix CD for a while now, and KDE4 seems to have improved quite a lot since I first blogged about it back in January. I'll about the experience of installing it on my laptop in the next few days, and since seeing this video on YouTube I'm tempted to install it on my Asus EEE PC as well!
