Only one month is left before KDE 4.1 is announced. That’s why I thought it’s a good occasion to perform yet another visual changelog (rev 823000). Amarok multimedia player is one of the best programs of its kind not only for Linux but for any operating system nowadays. It has been created as a KDE component. Most people hoped to have Amarok 2.0 included in KDE 4.0, which hasn’t happened. It’s hard to predict if it finds its way into KDE 4.1 stable, but it’s still worth taking a look at the current progress of this great multimedia player

A long time Ubuntu user tries Kubuntu Linux 8.04 live CD with KDE 4.0 desktop and shares his experience.

Jos Poortvliet has created a couple of cool sceencast videos showing what is coming in KDE 4.1, planned to be released this July. High quality videos are available via torrent, low quality ones from YouTube.

The state of Plasma can be currently described as 'chaotic'. The reason for that is that its API is being refactored which in result makes it almost impossible to use for a regular human being. Most applets despite continuous development, still experience issues with adjusting to the new API. This results in instabilities and — in some cases — even problem with displaying properly on desktop.

I've got the new Kubuntu 8.04 KDE4 Remix running now on my laptop and it is looking really good. I really like the new visual design and it is great that the Kubuntu project team made a release featuring KDE4 available on top of everything else they have had to do to get the main release of Kubuntu out. Up to now I have been running KDE3 and experimenting a bit with KDE4 on a virtual machine, but now I'm making the move full time. I don't know yet if that will prove a good decision while KDE4 is so young, it was only released in January 2008, but it is easy enough to swap desktop system on an Ubuntu distribution so I thought it was worth gaining that "bit of an edge" and going with the latest desktop experience that is available on Linux. The Ubuntu distributions always show very significant progress on every new release, and 8.04 has followed this trend and I'm finding it very pleasant to use

This week, I'm listing the items, big and small, that impress me about the latest release of KDE 4, in the hopes of offering some starting points for others' exploration of the new desktop. I have left out long-established features, such as virtual desktops, to focus on the new ones.

Aaron Seigo joined the KDE project in 2000 and is sponsored by Trolltech. Based in Calgary, Canada Aaron spends his time thinking about KDE project and its client-side software. Well, KDE4 was announced and there was much joy. Betas were released and there was much bitching. KDE4.0.0 was released and there again was much joy (and still a little bitching). More importantly an actual honest to goodness Windows port is released.

KDE 4 is out, as you probably already know, and it comes with a lot of innovations for the Linux desktop. KDE 4 is the next generation of the popular K Desktop Environment, which seeks to fulfill the need for a powerful yet easy-to-use desktop, for both personal and enterprise computing. KDE project’s goal for the 4.0 release is to put the foundations in place for future innovations on the FREE desktop. But today, we will talk about the future versions of KDE 4 and what features they’ll bring. Let’s have a look first at the main goals for KDE 4.1, which will be released somewhere in July:
