My take on negative voting on FSDaily

It has been suggested by one of our prominent community members that the use of negative votes should be confined to demoting spam. As the individual responsible for the introduction of negative voting on FSDaily, I feel I should explain my rationale for its inclusion and provide my tips on negative voting.

Drigg is looking for a new co-maintainer!

I would like to ask the free software community to syndicate this entry as much as possible. It’s not exciting, it’s not “hot”, but it is about the future of a great piece of free software. The short version: I am looking for a new co-maintainer for Drigg.

New FSDaily feature: community blogs!

If you are registered member of FSDaily and are logged in, you will see a new option next to "My account"... that's right - you now have your very own FSDaily blog account. If you have something free software related to tell the community go ahead and post it.

New FSDaily tool: Bookmarklets

FSDaily is a community driven site. Without submissions from the community there is no news for the FSDaily community. When you read a great free software related article you can share it with the rest of the free software community by submitting it to FSDaily yourself. An easy way to do this is using FSDaily Bookmarklets.

Love your bugs: a zen guide to keeping your sanity while managing a free software project

"Over the last few years, I’ve come to accept the fact that regardless of my attempts to quit this job, I am fundamentally a programmer. I wrote a book about security, I am the Editor In Chief of Free Software Magazine, but in the end I am still just a programmer. A lucky one, I must admit. Until last month, I had been blessed by the fact that either the software I wrote was owned by somebody else after a short contract (and therefore it didn’t matter to me once I had completed it: somebody else eventually took it over), or that what I programmed had been created just for myself (I was the only user of the software… bliss!). This changed when I became a free software programmer. I have recently released what I consider an important project: Drigg. read more
