Eclipse Foundation delivers Ganymede train with 23 cars, but where are the cloud on-ramps? | Dana Gardner’s BriefingsDirect | ZDNet.com

Hey Guys! I thought I had posted the release anouncement for Ganymede, but on a cross check I realized I hadn't. Haven't yet got a chance to get my hands dirty on this one. But it has a long list of impressive features. Check out the blog post at ZDNet to know more.Blogged with the Flock Browser

The “Art” of Programming

For those of you who think writing code is just wrangling ones and zeros. You should check out these visualizations of code submissions over time to various open source projects. They are examples of organic information visualizations called Code Swarm by Michael Ogawa Ph.D. student in the Computer Science program at UC Davis.

Hate to be the skeptic, but…

What does Microsoft gain from making these moves? If there’s anything about open source communities and technologies I’ve learned is that it’s imperative that you understand the motives, the context and the drivers of any vendors’ moves. I hate to be the skeptic, but I suspect Microsoft’s intentions are not pure. Warning phrases from Yoda come to mind… “Clear your mind must be, if you are to discover the real villains behind this plot.”

NetBeans IDE 6.1 is available!

View announcement

I missed the anouncement on 28th as I was on leave. I have been using 6.1 since its beta and along RC1 & 2 and am really impressed by what it has become. A truly wonderful IDE. I always thought NetBeans was much better integrated than Eclipse, with this release it only gets better. They also have PHP experimental support. Do check this out!!!Blogged with the Flock Browser

Eee PC SDK

I don't normally blog about heavy developer issues, because that's not the focus here. But I think this news is important:

Asus has launched a software developer kit or SDK for the Eee PC. Let's ignore the fact that the Eee PC uses open source software, so you shouldn't really need an SDK to develop applications and just focus on the fact that this kit includes tools and instructions for writing applications that can be easily added to the Eee PC's easy mode interface.

...

the SDK includes the following components:

* Xandros Desktop Open Circulation Version 4.5
* QT
* Eclipse
* QT plugin for Eclipse
* Debian packaging wizard developed by Xandros

The user guide also includes detailed instructions for creating applications and icons that will work in the Eee PC's Easy Mode interface.

Firefox Hits New High as IE7 Lags
I like the speed and light weight of the firefox as a browser. It rocks, while IE7 sucks. I had upgraded to IE7 on my Laptop, but after a few days reinstalled windows and reverted back to IE6. It's soooo slow :(

Excerpt: Mozilla Firefox continued its slow but steady march against the worldwide dominance of Microsoft Internet Explorer in 2007. Though the open-source web browser continues to sit firmly in second place behind IE, where it's been for years, usage of Firefox is still on the rise.

Skyway Software Joins Eclipse Foundation to Deploy SOA-Based Applications
Never heard of skyway, but it's a news about eclipse and so reporting it.

Excerpt: Skyway Software announced that it has joined the Eclipse Foundation. Skyway Software joins the Eclipse Foundation as an Add-In Provider member to support the continued growth of Eclipse's development platform.

JBoss Developer Studio is out! You have to pay $99 to get it?

Hey Guys, RedHat/JBoss have announced the GA of JBoss Developer Studio, the Eclipse IDE with tools Open sourced by Exadel and also some developed by RedHat/JBoss.

I have been using the Beta Version since it was launched. Though you don't have much functionality there that you can't assemble yourself, or in some cases get it better in other plugins like Aptana, BEA Workshop or IDE like Netbeans, still I was very happy by the stability. I have found Eclipse 3.3 (Europa) to be one of the more unstable and buggy release of eclipse till date, but JDS rocked there, so much that I started using it as my default Eclipse IDE, ofcourse with all my plugins loaded too.

Today when I saw the GA mail from Redhat I was happy.
But when I read the mail it said,

JBoss Developer Studio is available for $99 (you should really buy two at that price...) and provides a free entitlement to Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® and Red Hat Network (RHN).
