Five IT books on my 2009 reading list

I seem to collect a number of books each year.  A few of the books I receive from publishers with intent to review or as appreciation for my involvement with events related to content management systems.  Other books just peak my interest so I can't help but buy them for my personal library.  The following are five books I plan to read in 2009 and are available in CMS Report's Amazon Store. Minerva Enters LAMP Web CMS Game

Minerva is largely a services company providing a variety of web design and development solutions. Based in India, the organization is now moving in a product direction, targeting new ways to develop income sources and retain client relationships. Now for the sake of our credibility, we're not convinved that their latest project,  Minerva Infotech CMS 1.0, is going to make ripples in the web cms pond, but perhaps it will sprout some legs. So on a slow news day in early January we've decided it's worth noting.

7 great CMS Report articles from 2008 you still need to read

In keeping with tradition, the following are seven articles that were posted here at CMSReport.com and received less attention than I had hoped.  Either the reader didn't show up to view the article or there was little discussion on the subject matter.  I'll let you be the judge on whether these articles deserved the obscurity they received in 2008.

New Tool Released for SharePoint and Outlook integration

A new tool that makes it simple to place Outlook emails into SharePoint and share those files within a document library has been released by nSynergy.  eMail management has become a high priority for all businesses, both large and small, with most written correspondence being delivered in email form. Businesses can use tools like SharePoint to manage most of their important business documents, but the inability to easily place emails into SharePoint and share those files within a document library is a problem that many SharePoint users have encountered. nSynergy developed a tool called myDocs to integrate SharePoint and Outlook, and finally solve the problem of managing email within SharePoint.

Always something new in a mojoPortal release

mojoPortal 2.2.8.1 was released over the weekend.  The main purpose for the release was to fix a bug in the MS SQL version of the blog that was introduced in version 2.2.8.0.  Yet, one thing I've learned about mojoPortal is that in many of their bug fix releases...they almost always add some new new or enhanced features.  This release is no exception. New items in mojoPortal 2.2.8.1 that are worth mentioning include:

Thank You CMS Report Sponsors

CMS Report was recently toying with the idea of including paid advertisement in our news feed.  Instead we decided that our readers would be better served by seeing a "thank you" to our sponsors.  A monthly thank you from CMSReport.com seems to be fitting as just a few weeks ago we launched new sponsorship opportunities here at the site. CMS Report wants to thank the following sponsors for their support.

CMS Report as a Wikipedia reference

Occasionally, I see a post that I have written as a reference in a white paper, a book, or somewhere else online.  I actually started CMSReport.com as a place for me to learn more about Web content management systems and information systems.  Whenever someone references CMS Report it signals that we have gone full circle where someone is also learning from me.  There is not a more awesome feeling than this. One thing I have yet to achieve is being a legitimate reference at Wikipedia.  Until now!  CMS Report is being referenced on the wiki page for Frog CMS.

Open Source Learning Platforms... what is the point?

Introduction If you work in education you will know only too well what an LP is (and for our older readers, it's not made of vinyl). Otherwise you probably have no idea, ditto the near synonyms VLE and CMS. They respectively stand for: Learning Platform,Virtual Learning Environment, and Course Management Software. For our purposes I will use the collective acronym, LP. But, before plunging into [...]

Zimplit CMS released new version

Zimplit.org has released a new version of Zimplit CMS, an Open Source web-based content management system. Unlike most CMS applications that require advanced technical skills, Zimplit enables to create professional websites, without any skills. Content management systems are too complicated or unflexible for normal users. The majority of people who create websites or change them don´t know much about programming and they don´t need it. It is more than clear that installing most of the content management systems as well as new themes for websites is too difficult. Zimplit is created to resolve these problems. Releasing first version of Zimplit shows that people need this kind of content management systems, says Co-Founder Mattias Lepp.
