Adobe LiveCycle incorporates Alfresco CMS

Adobe Systems seems primed to take the Enterprise Content Management business by storm. Their Adobe LiveCycle ES (Enterprise Suite) has just been updated with the content management capabilities of enterprise content management provider Alfresco, helping them deliver to their customers an integrated solution that encompasses data capture, document output, content services and more.

According to Alfresco, this new technology partnership represents a shared vision "for a new class of applications that utilize flexible, open source and Web 2.0 standards that deliver rich and engaging enterprise experiences".

Enterprise 2.0 Panel on Open Source

Last week, at the Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston, I moderated a panel on Open Source Platforms.
The panelists were:

Bob Bickel, from Ringside Networks
John Newton, from Alfresco
Jeff Whatcott, from Acquia

Although the conference doesn’t audio tape or videotape the breakout sessions in the smaller rooms - only the keynote - they were nice enough to allow us [...]

Open source at Enterprise 2.0

Kathleen Reidy: "I attended a star-studded open source panel this morning, with Bob Bickel of Ringside Networks, Jeff Whatcott of Acquia and John Newton of Alfresco. The panel and audience members discussed adoption of open source specifically for social applications.

There was a bit of discussion on market readiness for open source in this sector."

Enterprise 2.0 Conference Pass

I don’t normally cross-promote heavily across the multiple places I blog, but this one seemed worthwhile.

From my blog at Optaros.com: “Enterprise 2.0 Free Conference Pass

At the upcoming Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston this June, I will be moderating a panel on Open Source Platforms.

The panel will be Thursday, June 12th, at 8:30am.

Here’s the session description:

Community and collaboration pervade open source. It’s no surprise therefore that there are a number of open source platforms which are not only capable of delivering Enterprise 2.0, but are delivering it with innovation, flexibility, and agility. This session covers several, including (but not limited to) Alfresco, Drupal, and Ringside Networks.

Participating on the panel with me will be:

Alfresco Quietly Releases Latest Enterprise Edition

Alfresco 2.2, enterprise content management

There were no fireworks, no fanfare or screams of "It's Here!, come and get it!". Last week, Alfresco very quietly released the newest version of their enterprise content management system. We here at CMSWire thought that was strange for such a well-known popular ECM.

So we contacted the folks over there. They told us that in a few weeks, Alfresco will officially, formally launch the release of Alfresco Enterprise Edition 2.2. Then they allowed us to grace the presence of their Chief Marketing Officer, Ian Howells, who taught us a few things about the impetus behind the release.

Alfresco Flying High - The Power of Open Source

Alfresco Content management

At the same as Enterprise Content Management Provider Vignette is reporting lower expected earnings partially from a decrease in spending in the North American market, open source enterprise content management provider Alfresco is announcing a financial rock solid end to 2007. And 2008 is looking even brighter.

JumpBox Delivers Virtual Appliance Subscriptions

Jumpbox,virtual appliances

Virtual appliance wizard, JumpBox, Inc., has announced the launch of JumpBox Open, a service that will give users subscription access to their collection of easy-to-deploy virtual appliances for Open Source applications.

Alfresco Improves Web Admin Usability

Alfresco,content management,Alfresco Dynamic Website

Courtesy of our pal, Seth Gottlieb, we learned that Alfresco will soon be releasing Alfresco Dynamic Website (ADW). A part of the Alfresco Community Project, the Dynamic Website combines the expertise and best practices learned from employees and community members to provide "a robust, enterprise-class web site assembly framework that aims to go above and beyond the solutions offered by proprietary companies".

Translation: ADW offers up a much better user interface for managing web projects. A much needed improvement, as Alfresco's WCM "user interface while simple, has been faulted being over-simplified in some cases."

Alfresco plans to open up

"Jeff Potts has an update to his cogent post on Alfresco's insularity.
According to Jeff, John Newton and Kevin Cochrane promised to create a
system that would allow non-Alfresco employees to contribute to the
Alfresco code base. The changes are expected when Alfresco releases 3.0
of the Enterprise Edition. At this time, the Community Edition (which
Alfresco treats as a "lab" for introducing new, unsupported features)
may start to accept contributions from non-Alfrescans. The prospect of
committer status is unsure."

Alfresco Software Awarded GSA Contract Schedule

This is a big thing for Alfresco.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 11, 2008 – Alfresco today announced the award
of a GSA listing, GS-35F-0131R, providing government customers with the
ability to conveniently purchase and deploy Alfresco ECM solutions.

When you want to sell big to the federal government, a GSA listing for your product is a must. Most government agencies are required to first look at the GSA listing before they make purchases. Only if their needs are not met by GSA are they then able to look elsewhere to make their purchases. At least that's how I understand it.

Revealing numbers from Alfresco regarding the enterprise stack

There is some very interesting numbers summarized in the press release that should be of interest to not only using those Alfresco products, but to almost anyone using enterprise software. Some of the more interesting numbers and statistics pulled from the study:
